We are happy to have so many new customers join us at the market, and see our regular customers back after the Holidays. Thanks to all of you our market is flourishing and we are able to have new products on offer. Laurel, our edamame supplier, has been selling edamame at a reduced rate c2500 per bag, we hope she will be selling again this week. Martin (fresas) has frozen fruit pulp ideal for putting in the blender and making juices, as well as delicious petit pois. Jasona has a wide variety of dried fruit and leathers, as well as organic seeds, like alfalfa and linseed.

We will have a Buena Tierra table with multigrain sourdough bread from Backlands c3,000, mini ciabattas whole wheat with seeds, or rye, c650 each and bottled pure organic mango juice at c2800 for 750 ml

Remember the market is from 8am til 11 am every Wednesday. See you then!

Estamos contentos a ver tanta gente nueva y nuestras clientes fieles de vuelta despues de los vacaciones. Gracias a ustedes nuestra feria va creciendo y podemos traer nuevos productos.

There will be a market for the next 3 wednesdays in December. The last market before Christmas will be the 22nd December. We will then do a market on the 11th Jan and another on the 25th Jan and resume our normal weekly markets in February.

Vamos a tener feria los próximos 3 miércoles en diciembre. La ultima feria antes de navidad sera el 22 diciembre. En enero las fechas de la feria serian 11 y 25, y luego en febrero volvemos a hacer feria todos los miércoles.

At this weeks market we will have fresh Curcuma or Turmeric; like a ginger root, but known for its excellent anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Grate a small amount on top of your meals, add it to stir fries and rice dishes, even to your juices. It gives a distinctive yellow colour, and is generally used in curries. Cost c500 for 100g

This week we will also have dried yellow organic corn, this needs to be boiled with a teaspoon of Cal (limestone) until soft. This helps separate the hard outer kernel. You then wash the corn thoroughly and grind it to use for tortillas, pupusas and arepas.

For those of you who live closer to Ciudad Colon we are helping to organise the Mercado de la Tierra, Ciudad Colon every Thursday from 8am to 12 noon in the old market building next to the church. There you will find a wide range of organic vegetables and artesanal products on sale.

Of course we are also in Escazu in front of the Red Cross every Wednesday with a great variety of fresh produce.

Some new products this week

Hopefully this week we will have better market weather. We are going to try to arrange the producers under a large covered area on the basketball pitch to leave more space to sell the vegetables in the rancho. This should make it easier for everyone to do their shopping.

We now have a new pineapple supplier and they have gone down in price to c800, he is also bringing fresh heart of palm and yucca.

Plums are back in season again and they are delicious. One of my favourite ways of preparing them is cooked in a little water with organic tapa dulce, ginger and cinnamon.

We will have tapa dulce again this week and organic brown rice.

Esperamos que esta semana el clima va ser mejor para la feria. Vamos a poner un toldo para que algunos de los vendedores se instalen arriba en la cancha de basket. Este va hacerlo mas fácil para todos hacer sus compras.

Nuevas de la semana; tenemos un nuevo proveedor de pina y bajo a c800 c/u, también trae palmito y yuca.

Ciruelas también están de regreso, y deliciosas, yo los cocino con canela, tapa dulce y jengibre.

Slow Food Convivium Ciudad Colon

We will be taking part in the II convivium of Slow Food in Costa Rica this Tuesday 25th October, which is to be held in the old Market building next to the church in Ciudad Colon from 9 to 11.30 am. There will be a stands selling fresh organic produce and also prepared foods to taste and buy. For those of you who are closer to Ciudad Colon stop by and see what is on offer.

We will be holding the Escazu market as usual on Wednesday from 8 to 11 am in front of the red cross building.

In spite of all the rain we have had, a lot of customers visited the market last week. Thanks to all of you who ventured out in the bad weather. We are trying to rearrange the use of space to make it easier for the customers to do their shopping.

New seller this week: Alan Rodriguez, with fresh coconut water and yucca, next week he will also be able to offer pejibyes and heart of palm.

Buena Tierra Cafeteria stand offers Dandelion green sauce, almond hummus, pesto and organic wine.

A pesar de las lluvias llegaron bastantes personas a la feria esta semana. Gracias a todas quienes nos visiten.

Habia un nuevo vendedor esta semana, con agua pipa y yuca. La próxima semana trae pejibyes y palmito también.

La mesa de la Cafeteria Buena Tierra ofrece salsa de diente de leon, hummus de almendra y vino organico.

Thanks to all our customers, old and new for helping make this market an enjoyable event. We again had a good selection of produce left until the end of the market, so you can avoid the queue and come later to buy your fresh veggies. Good news is that we now have a steady supply of organic kale, a green leafy from the cabbage family rich in antioxidants and minerals and vitamins which can help prevent cancer and lower cholesterol amongst other health benefits. It can be steamed, marinated for salads or tossed in olive oil and baked in the oven to make delicious,crispy kale chips. Another herb I would like to share with you is dandelion, this leaf is somewhat bitter but can be mixed in salads, it is third richest food source for vitamin A, it also provides calcium, potassium, and the B . It has excellent detoxifying properties, for cleansing the liver, improving gastrointestinal health, and an excellent tonic for the blood. I blend it in the food processor with garlic olive oil, arugula and parsley to make a pesto type sauce for pastas, spreading on bread or serving with brown rice. Look out for it at the market.

Our cafeteria Buena Tierra will have a stand at the market offering, its organic pesto, salsa banetto (with parsley and anchovies) dandelion sauce, and organic wine, so stop by and try our products!

Gracias a todos nuestros clientes fieles y a los nuevos que nos visitan! La feria esta semana estuvo llena de productos, y había bastante selección hasta el ultimo. Hay dos productos nuevos que son de mucho interés. El primero es col rizada (kale): unas hojas de color verde oscuro muy ricas en antioxidantes y con muchas vitaminas y minerales que ayudan a prevenir el cáncer. Se puede preparar al vapor, en ensalada remojada en limón o con esta receta deliciosa: lavar las hojas y secar bien, quitar los tallos y picar en pedazos no muy pequeños. Bañarlos con un poco de aceite oliva y poner en el horno a 180 grados por unos 20 minutos. Rocíar con un poco de sal marina y listo, ya tiene unas chips verdes deliciosas y saludables.

También tenemos diente de león, otra hoja rica en vitamina K y A, un poco amarga pero puede añadirse a las ensaladas y arroces o preparar una salsa rica en el procesador con ajo, aceite de oliva, diente de león, arugula y perejil, para untar al pan o condimentar pastas en lugar del pesto.

Last week's market saw a lot of new faces, thanks to all those who visit us. Next Wednesday we will order more produce to try and keep up with demand. Some of our newer products are endamame(soy beans), kale and oyster mushrooms. We also have more stands selling wide variety of foods, from fruit leather and raw food crackers, to mini aubergine, tamales, platano and frozen coconut milk.

Hi dear friends! I hope you are having a great time during these holidays!!
Many of you already went back to their countries while others are enjoying the natural beauties of wonderful Costa Rica. Nevertheless some of you are still in town and don't really have anything planned.
I want to inform you that Escazú Organic Market will take place as usual next Wednesday, July 8th, starting at 8.00 am.
I also want to invite you (if you don't know it already), to come and visit our new Coffee Shop Buena Tierra. We are located one block South from the main entrance of San Miguel Catholic Church, downtown Escazú in the new shopping center Buena Tierra. It is a green double story building decorated with amazing mosaics made by artist Rebeca Fernández (who has her workshop in the same mall).
In our coffee shop we serve breakfasts and lunches all made with high quality ingredients, organic and natural. You will also be able to taste our delicious home made cakes, organic coffees and teas, take home our gourmets dishes or just order them, buy cosmetics and biodegradable cleaning products.

Algunos ya se han ido para sus países de origen y otros están disfrutando de las bellezas naturales de este bonito país.
No obstante, algunos todavía se encuentran en la ciudad y no tienen planeado ir a ningún lado en especial.
Les recuerdo que la Feria Orgánica de Escazú se tendrá normalmente el próximo Miércoles 8 de Julio a partir de las 8.00 am. Además invito a todos los que todavía no conocen a visitar nuestra nueva Cafetería "Buena Tierra".
Estamos ubicados 100 mts al Sur de la entrada principal de la Iglesia San Miguel en Escazú centro, en el nuevo centro comercial Buena Tierra. Es un edificio esquinero, verde, de dos plantas todo decorado con lindísimos mosaicos hechos por la ártista Rebeca Fernández, que tiene también su taller en el mismo centro.
En nuestra cafetería servimos desayunos y almuerzos elaborados con ingredientes de la mejor calidad, orgánicos y naturales. Además podrán degustar deliciosos queques, cafés y tés orgánicos, llevar para la casa los platillos de nuestra gastronomía, hacer sus pedidos y conseguir cosméticos para el cuidado personal y prodúctos biodegradables para la limpieza de la casa.

Dear friends,
it has been a while since my last publication on the blog. It was because of lack of inspiration or simply because I couldn't find the right words to express myself. .. Well I've just received an e-mail that filled my heart of joy, love and hope. What is it about?

I want to tell you that some friends of the organic market's are part of the Association "Luz de Amma" (Amma's Light). Amma is an Indian spiritual leader who devoted all her life to humanitarian activities and is known as "the hugging Saint". She believes that "Only when human beings are able to perceive and acknowledge the Self in each other there can be real peace".
Various charitable and humanitarian projects have been undertaken by Amma's organization, such as programs to build homes for the poor, hospitals, orphanages, hospices. The organization also runs around 100 schools, a super-specialty hospital in Kochi, feeds thousands from its kitchen, provides pensions every year to over 15,000 widows, builds 25,000 houses annually for the homeless and has 35 Amma welfare centers worldwide to spread her spiritual message.

This group of friends of "Luz de Amma" are also undertaking similar projects here in Costa Rica. Once a month they organize a "Soup kitchen" that they distribute in San Jose's red district. They also assist, accompany, entertain and provide with food and clothes kids living in several orphanages and elder people of different hospices.

They are a great example for all of us. Here follows a copy of the e-mail that moved me so much. I will keep you informed about all the activities organized by the Association in case you want to participate or contribute.

“The Sundays that we feed the homeless are very special and very rewarding days. We get up and go to market and buy whatever is still needed and armed with our knives and cutting boards, we head over to Khullood and Kumar's home to start prepping, chopping, washing and peeling all of the ingredients that go into the incredible soup that we serve. There is usually a crowd in the kitchen....never less than half a dozen and sometimes more than a dozen! It is always different and always a surprise, teachers, students, friends, devotees...... there is always a good turnout of our Luz de Amma association. Kumar is out in the garage, with these two huge pots, first browning and then stirring the pot, with a spoon as big as an oar. It is a "man's job" stirring those pots! Khullood is our chef par excellance, deciding what goes in and when to add it and eventually we have all the ingredients blending with fresh herbs from Vimala's garden. Before long, everyone is visiting Kumar and peering into the pots as this delicious aroma floats up and out. Even the dogs are sniffing around us, happily. We have gotten so good at it that by 11:30 am the soup is usually ready and that is when we form a circle around the pots and bless the soup, and the folks who will receive the soup and chant some prayers. Now the last ingredient, LOVE, is sealed into the pots. Some of us leave to go home, some of us get some lunch and we meet again, in the red light district of northwest San Jose to distribute the food. Maribel has inevitably produced magnificent looking sweets, packaged with an Amma sticker, to give to each of the people who come to be nourished.
Our men on the street, Erland and Eckhart are there for the distribution adding their presence to our group and helping to keep things from getting out of hand, (which, they never do). The folks are so appreciative and surprised when they taste the soup! They come back for seconds and thirds and give us thanks for the delicious food. It is such a living lesson in compassion. We have had very young girls come along with us to distribute the food and never once has there been a problem with this wild and wooly looking bunch of people who live in the street. When food and drink and whatever else we may have for them is distributed, we pack up and leave, without a trace of ever having been on that street....but in the minds and hearts of all of us who offer the food and partake of it, there is much more than a trace of Amma's presence and grace. We all leave very full.

Queridos amigos,
hace tiempo que no escribo nada en el blog de la feria.... Me estaba haciendo falta la inspiración o simplemente no lograba encotrar las palabras correctas para expresarme.... Bueno, acabo de recibir un correo que me ha llenado el corazón de felicidad, amor y esperanza.... ¿De que se trata?
Les quiero contar que un grupo de amigos de la feria orgánica pertenecen a la Asociación "La Luz de Amma". Esta Asociación se inspira en el trabajo hecho por una mujer Indú llamada Amma, la cual durante toda su vida se ha dedicado y sigue dedicádose en realizar obras caritativas.
Sus enseñanzas son una llamada para que las personas vuelvan su mirada hacia las nobles cualidades en la vida cotidiana. Ella afirma que el ser humano no puede progresar espiritualmente si no desarrolla un espíritu altruista.
De esta manera, ha creado numerosas obras caritativas en las que el objetivo constante es el desarrollo de la persona en todas sus dimensiones: escuelas, hospitales, campamentos médicos, viviendas, pensiones para mujeres sin recursos, orfanatos y centros de enseñanza superior (informática, medicina, enfermería, ingeniería, etc.)El grupo de amigos de la Asociación "La Luz de Amma" también realiza un gran número de obras caritativas. Una vez por mes por ejemplo, se reúnen en la casa de uno de los apartenentes a la Asociación y cocinan una grande sopa que luego distribuyen a los indigentes de la zona Roja en San José. Se ocupan de acompañar, asistir, entretener y proveer con ropa y comida a niños de varios orfanatos así como a ancianos de diferentes hogares sin prejuicio alguno. Es un ejemplo que todos deberíamos seguir. Sigue copia del correo que recibí y que tanto me conmovió. Los mantendré informados sobre las actividades de la Asociación por si quieren ayudar o participar.

“Los domingos que alimentamos a los indigentes son días muy especiales y gratificantes. Nos levantamos y nos dirigimos al mercado a comprar cualquier ingrediente que todavía haga falta, armados con nuestros cuchillos y tablas de picar, nos dirigimos a casa de Khullood y Kumar y comenzamos a preparar, cortar, lavar y pelar todos los ingredientes que van en esta increíble sopa que servimos. Usualmente hay una multitud en la cocina...nunca menos de media docena y algunas veces más de una docena!. Siempre es diferente y siempre una sorpresa, profesores, estudiantes, amigos, devotos....siempre una buena producción de nuestra Asociación la Luz de Amma. Kumar se encuentra en el garaje con estas dos gigantescas ollas, primero dorando y luego moviendo la olla, con una cuchara tan grande como un remo. Es un trabajo de hombre el poder mover esas ollas, Khullood es nuestro chef por excelencia, decidiendo que se echa y cuando hasta que eventualmente están todos los ingredientes revueltos con hierbas frescas del jardín de Vimala. En poco tiempo, todos estamos visitando a Kumar asomados en las ollas mientras este delicioso aroma flota hacia afuera. Incluso los perros olfatean cerca de nosotros felices. Nos hemos vuelto tan buenos en esto que para las 11:30 am, la sopa esta usualmente lista y es entonces cuando formamos un círculo alrededor de la sopa y bendecimos la sopa y a quienes la recibirán mediante cantos y oración. Ahora, el último ingrediente, AMOR, es el sello de la sopa. Algunos de nosotros nos vamos a nuestras casas, algunos almorzamos y luego nos reunimos otra vez en la zona roja al noroeste de San José para distribuir la comida. Maribel hornea siempre deliciosos dulces empacados con un sticker de Amma para entregárselos a cada una de las personas que vienen a ser alimentadas.
Nuestros hombres en la calle, Erland y Eckhart llegan para la distribución, agregando su presencia a nuestro grupo nos ayudan a que las cosas no se nos salgan de las manos (lo cual nunca sucede). Las personas están tan agradecidas y sorprendidas con el sabor de la sopa!, regresan para repetir dos y tres veces y nos agradecen por la comida tan deliciosa. Es una lección en vida de compasión. Hemos tenido la compañía de jovencitas con nosotros durante la distribución de la comida y ni una sola vez ha habido un problema con estas personas indigentes. Cuando la comida, las bebidas y cualquier cosa adicional que tengamos para distribuir se agota, empacamos y nos vamos, sin dejar rastro de haber estado en las calles....mas en las mentes y corazones de los que ofrecemos la comida o formamos parte de este proyecto, hay mucho más que un rastro de la presencia y la gracia de Amma. Todos nos alejamos muy llenos.

Espero que la hayan pasado de maravilla durante sus vacaciones y ahora que regresaron a la ciudad les recuerdo que desde el 7 de Enero la Feria Orgánica Buena Tierra ha vuelto en las mismas instalaciones en donde tiene lugar cada Miércoles a partir de las 8:00 am (no antes) .

Quiero además informarles que nuestra amiga Janine Fafard está organizando unos eventos relacionados con la revolucionaria Técnica de Liberación Emocional llámada EFT (por sus siglas en inglés).
Varios talleres serán ofrecidos en ambos idiomas por Margot Diskin de Irlanda.
Los talleres se tendrán en las instalaciones de Janine en Escazú.

Coconut oil's secret

For many years I was convinced that being coconut oil a saturated fat, it was very unhealthy if used for cooking purposes.

15 days ago I decided to ask Monica, a friend who sells at the market, a few questions about this issue, as I saw she was promoting coconut oil as excellent for stir frying.
She was very clear explaining to me how mistaken I was.
In fact recent studies have proved that coconut oil can be of great benefit to our health.
According to researchers the secret to health and weight loss associated with coconut oil is related to the length of the fatty acid chain contained in it. Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids which are different from the common long chain fatty acids as they are not stored in the body as fat, but they are burnt for energy. MCFA burn up quickly in the body.
Not only do MCFA raise the body metabolism leading to weight loss, but they have special health giving properties as well, being lauric acid the most predominant. Durante muchos años estuve convencida que el aceite de coco, por ser una grasa saturada, representava una amenaza a nuestra salud si utilizado para freir alimentos o para uso comestible.

Hace dos miércoles decidí hacerle unas preguntas al respecto a Mónica, una amiga que participa en la feria, porque me di cuenta de que estaba promocionando la venta de aceite de coco para uso comestible, además de una gran variedad de otros productos a base de aceite de coco (jabones de tocador, detergentes para la ropa, lavaplatos, etc...) .
Mónica me explicó lo equivocada que estaba.... contrariamente a todas las creencias, recientes estudios descrubieron lo beneficioso que el aceite de coco puede ser para todos nosotros.
En pocas palabras el aceite de coco es un alimento excepcionalmente nutritivo que ayuda en la lucha y prevención de enfermedades, ayuda a perder peso y a no volver a recuperarlo. El aceite de coco es rico en ácido laurico (la leche materna contiene el 56% de ácido laurico) el cual es un probado agente antivírico, antibacteriano y antihongos.
Contrariamente a las creencias, la grasa saturada es necesaria para una nutrición optima. Hay tres tipos de grasas sautradas y los cocos contienen la más sana: los Ácidos Grasos de Cadena Media.
Esos ácidos son enviados directamente al higado y se transforman inmediatamente en energía acelerándo el metabolismo. Como consecuencia el cuerpo quema más calorías lo cual se traduce en perdida de peso, aumento de energía y vitalidad.
El aceite de coco es además fuente de ácido fólico, vitamina B y minerales como calcio, magnesio y potasio.

Hola queridos/as amigos/as,
espero hayan pasado un buen fin de semana. Mañana como cada Miércoles es día de feria. Favor recordarse que abrimos a las 8:00, no antes.

¿Se acuerdan que hace 2 semanas escribí sobre una amiga y clienta de la feria que organizó el Festival de Yoga en el CENAC?

Ella se llama Joan (o Vimala) y hace también parte de un grupo de personas que cada mes organiza una COCINA SOPA.

Muchos de Ustedes se preguntarán: ¿Qué es una cocina sopa? Bueno, ellos compran, cocinan y alimentan a los indigentes hambrientos de la zona roja cerca de la Coca Cola en San José. ¿Que les parece?....

El Domingo pasado, 28 de Setiembre, también salieron a la calle. Además ahora se ocupan de CENTROS DE ATENCIÓN AL ANCIANO y de ORFANATOS.

Si quieren unirse al grupo contribuyendo con tiempo o dinero, con donaciones o servicios en ayuda de estas causas tán valiosas, por favor contacten a uno de ellos.
Pueden actuar en su propio barrio, o salir a la calle con el grupo. Pueden dedicar el tiempo que tengan disponible sea eso una mañana o tarde por semana o por mes, unas horas de vez en cuando para dar de comer y cuidar a estas personas acompañándolas, leyendo y hablando con ellos.
Si hay alguna especialidad que pueden compartir con el grupo, favor comunicársela.

hope you had a nice week end. Tomorrow like every Wednesday is market day. Please keep in mind that we will be open at 8:00.

Do you remember that 2 weeks ago I talked to you about one friend and customer of ours, Joan (or Vimala), who supported the Yoga Festival at CENAC?
Well, I want to inform you that Joan is part of an organization that, since last spring, organizes a monthly SOUP KITCHEN.
What is a soup kitchen? You will probably ask.... Well, they purchase and cook food in order to feed the hungry people in the red light district near Coca Cola once a month. Not bad!!!!

Last Sunday 28th September, they went out again..... Now they also visit ORPHANAGES and ELDERCARE CENTERS.

They kindly ask people willing to help and joining them by contributing with time or money or by donating goods or services to these very worthy causes, to give a call to one of them.
It is possible to act in your own neighborhood. You can donate whatever time you have available to help, feed and nurture these people by reading to them, accompanying them, talking to them. Please let them know if there is some specialty you can share with these communities.

El Bolso Ecológico

Queridos/as amigos/as,

una vez más estamos sorprendidas por la gran cantidad de gente que visita nuestra feria cada semana. Nunca me cansaré en agradecerles.

Quiero informarles que a partir del próximo miércoles, estarán a la venta los lindísimos bolsos ecológicos de la Asociación Terra Nostra. Estos bolsos son talvez un poco más caros que los distribuidos por las grandes cadenas de supermercados pero tienen una muy noble causa.

Estas bolsas son hechas por un grupo de mujeres de San Miguel de Desamparados, las cuales son también amas de casa y cabezas de hogar.
Además al comprarlas Usted no solo ayudará a no contaminar nuestro medio ambiente, sino que contribuirá a que el 25% de lo recaudado sea dirigido al Programa de Educación en Manejo de Residuos que la ATN está desarrolando.

¡Me parecen dos muy buenas razones para adquirir las bolsas reutilizables!

Es increible cómo la feria se esté haciendo más y más popular cada semana. Muchas gracias a todos Ustedes, de corazón. Hoy algunos productos se habían acabado a las 9:00 por lo que vamos a hacer un pedido más grande la próxima semana.

Les recuerdo que la feria empieza a las 8:00am. Si llegan antes pueden recoger sus productos pero tendrán que esperar para que se les aliste la cuenta.

¿Ya probaron el pan de centeno que hace Don Elías? Es delicioso y deliciosos son sus queques, sus galletas, ect... ¡Se los recomiendo!

Además, necesito saber si tienen sugerencias... por lo que les pido que por favor nos envien sus comentarios.

Yes, it is really amazing! Every week more and more people visit our market!
Today many goods were already sold out at 9:00, so that we are going to make a bigger order for next week.
Please remember that market starts at 8:00am. If you come there earlier, you can pick up your goods, but you will have to wait to have your bill made up.

Did you already tried the rye bread Don Elías makes? It is delicious, and delicious are his cookies, cakes, etc.... I recommend them.

Please, I need to know if you have some suggestion to make.... so, post your comments!!!

La Feria Orgánica se está populando

Hola queridas/os amigas/os,
muchas gracias por hacer de cada Miércoles un día de feria muy especial.

Hoy estuvimos bien ocupados y varios productos se terminaron antes de las 10.00. Entonces recuerden llegar temprano para aprovechar de toda la variedad ofrecida. Si creen que no pueden llegar a la feria, ya saben que me pueden llamar (Laura 8840 8414) y con gusto les entregamos. Eso sí, tienen que contactarme a más tardar el Lunes a las 12.00.
Cobramos ¢1.000,00 para entregas en el área de Escazú, ¢1.500,00 en Santa Ana y Rohrmoser, ¢2.000,00 en Mora y Ciudad Colón.

También quiero recordarles que ya no nos permiten parquear al interior del lote que hospeda la feria. Muchos carros hacen que la pintura de la cancha de basket y el cesped se lastimen. Lo siento, pero sé que nos entienden.

Eso es por el momento.
¡Ah!.....me encantaría conocer su opinión sobre la feria..... si tienen sugerencias o críticas... por favor envien sus comentarios, así podremos mejorar.

Organic market is getting busy!

Hi dear friends,
thank you again to help us making every Wednesday a great market day!!!

Today we were pretty busy and many goods were already sold out before 10.00.
So remember..... the earlier you come the better.

If you think you cannot make it and you still want to do your shopping you know you can call me (Laura 8840 8414) and have it delivered, but please call within Monday 12.00.
We charge ¢1.000,00 for deliveries within the Escazú area, ¢1.500,00 Santa Ana & Rohrmoser and ¢2.000,00 Mora & Ciudad Colón.

I also want to remind everybody that parking inside the property where the market takes place is not allowed anymore.... the fact is that cars cause damage to the paint of the basket rank and to the grass. I am sorry, but I know you understand.

So that's all for today, but I really would like to know your opinion about the market.... if you have any suggestion or critic to make.... please post your comments they will just help us to improve!!!

Feria orgánica Buenatierra - Mapa e informaciones para el parqueo

Hola amigos y muchas gracias por visitarnos cada Miércoles en la feria.
Lo de arriba es un mapa que, siguiendo la línea roja, les explica donde estamos ubicados (de la Paco en San Rafael de Escazú, subir +/- 1 km, estamos al frente del bar Snoopy). Lo siento es un poco pequeño, pero no me fué posible subir una imágen más grande.

Tenemos que pedirles nuestras disculpas porque ya no nos permiten dejar que se parqueen los carros en la cancha de basket (se lastima la pintura) y en el cesped. Por favor dejen sus automóviles parqueados a los lados de la carretera y muchisimas gracias por comprender.

Hoy Ena y Jaguar (los muchachos del pan) no pudieron llegar. Regresaron de Mexico ayer en la noche y les fué imposible hornear el pan. Me pidieron de informar a todos que sin falta la próxima semana estarán en la feria.

Nuevos vendedores participaron a la feria de hoy: Isolde y su hija llegaron con unas tortillas de maís orgánico y queso que son una delicia. ¡¡¡No se las tienen que perder!!! Además Isolde trae una sartén eléctrica para que Usted las pueda probar en el lugar calientitas.....
Isolde y su hija venden también exquisitos apretados de mora orgánica y pulpa congelada de mora orgánica para sus frescos.

¡¡¡Una vez más tenemos buenas razones para pedirles que no falten!!!

Buena Tierra Organic Market Map & parking info

Dear friends,
Thank you so much for visiting our market weekly. Above is a map that shows you how to reach our location (follow the red dotted line). I hope it is clear enough, I couldn't upload it in a bigger size. Mainly we are 1km South (uphill) from Paco Mall, just in front of the Red Cross Building (or bar Snoopy), downtown Escazú.

I also have to apologize about the parking. We are not allowed anymore to let people park on the basket rank, as it takes the paint off, nor on the lawn. We kindly ask you to park your car along the road sides (thank you for understanding).

Ena and Jaguar (the bread people) couldn't make it today. They came back from Mexico yesterday night and of course they didn't have time to bake. They asked me to inform everybody that they won't miss next Wednesday market.

Today we had a new entry: Isolde and her daughter joined us with their great organic corn and cheese tortillas. They are so good!!! Plus, you can try them warm as Isolde comes with an electric pan to heat them. From them you can also buy organic blackberry ice creams and organic blackberry frozen pulp to make delicious juices.

Once again we have a good reason to ask you to come and visit us!!!

Hola amigas/os,
como prometido voy a editar el blog en Español también.
Ante de todo muchas gracias por llegar puntuales cada miércoles a la feria orgánica. ¡¡¡Los últimos dos miércoles nos fué de maravilla!!!

Quiero informar a todos los que no pudieron llegar este miércoles, que tenemos nuevos y deliciosos productos orgánicos. No se pierdan unas jugosisimas manzanas y ciruelas. También tenemos cebollas moradas y berenjenas.

Además la semana pasada Ena y Jaguar (los del pan) andaban fuera del país, pero van a estar de regreso para atender la feria del próximo miércoles....así que ¡No falten!

Ah...como siempre les recomiendo llegar bien temprano. Ciertos productos se terminan antes de las 10.00am.

I want to thank all the people who visited the market last Wednesday! It was great! We sold everything out!

Weekly Market of organic veggies and herbs

Hi everybody, my name is Laura Barra, I come from the North of Italy and with my husband I moved to Costa Rica 15 years ago. In this country was born our lovely daughter Sarah, who is now 12. With my friends Honey and Fiona since 2 months I run the weekly market of organic veggies and herbs. It takes place every Wednesday from 8.00am to 11.00am. in the garden opposite the Red Cross building located downtown Escazú, 1km South of Paco Mall (going towards the Cemetery).

Now, let me introduce our group!

Honey Akerson is a wonderful lady who came to Costa Rica from the U.S. with her husband 30 years ago. They fell in love with the little village of Pochote, near Tambor in the Nicoya Peninsula where they settled and grew up a big family. The need of feeding her 8 kids the best and healthier way, pushed Honey to organize and help a group of local farmers in order to get organic certifications. She then started selling their products in Montezuma every Saturday giving birth to the first organic market in the area (but I think in the whole the Country), which later on she extended to the beach towns of Malpais/Santa Teresa and Tambor.

Fiona Lamont 18 years ago moved from England to Costa Rica where she got married to Alex and had 3 lovely girls.

Like Honey, Fiona and I were also living close to Montezuma, in Cabuya, and both were good customers of Honey's organic market. Once moved to the Escazú area we kept on buying organic products in supermarkets, but we were kind of missing the quality and freshness we were used to in Montezuma.

For this reason and being aware that such a market was necessary in a community like the one of Escazú, Fiona decided to contact Honey and see if she agreed to start selling her veggies in this area too. Honey's answer was positive and immediately Fiona started looking for the appropriate place that could host the market. Finally she managed to get all the permits from the Municipality and have it happen in the garden opposite the Red Cross Building.

As far as I'm concerned, I help with the sale of the goods every Wednesday, I accept orders and do deliveries whenever people cannot make it to the market and with Fiona I take care of the promotional side of the project.

The purpose of this blog is to give voice to the market. Please tell us what you think about it, give us your suggestions, post your questions. I will be glad to know your opinion and to answer your enquiries.

If you are new to the market you probably don't know that other people joined us with their products:

Carola sells exquisite goat and cow yogurts and cheeses made in her farm in Coronado. Maria Fernanda delights us with her body and face soaps, creams, essential oils all made from organic herbs. Ena and Jaguar bake uncomparable bromate free brown bread flavored with organic herbs, seeds and nuts. Otto and his wife Melanie offer excellent biodegradable, ecological cleaning products.

So, don't wait any longer!!! Come next Wednesday! The earlier, the better.... great variety!
